Looking for a new artist to listen to? Want more pop songs that are chill? Check out David Hugo, a 21 year old singer from CA. Hugo released “How to Love Other People” on Dec. 15. The EP has six songs on it. All the tracks are upbeat and fall under the pop genre. The EP’s name is taken from the last song on the tracklist.

Hugo released three singles from the EP, “Die Right Here” on July 28, “Ambition” on Sep. 1, and “Hot Mess” on Oct. 6.

As the title suggests, the songs on the EP are about love. The only song that strays from the topic of love is “Ambition.” Instead of being about love, “Ambition” is meant to inspire people. It’s about someone who didn’t follow their dreams because they lacked ambition. Hugo sings that he can “see your potential” and that he thinks he “knows exactly what you’re missin’/ambition.” He uses “Ambition” to say that goals can be achievable if motivation and ambition are put towards them.

The other five songs almost seem to tell a story about loving another person.

“Die Right Here” and “Exception” are about falling and being in love. They show the rush and the happiness of  falling in love, even if the new partner is different from previous romantic relationships.

“Hot Mess” goes into the idea that the relationship has become messy and while it’s not good, it’s still enjoyable. It also marks the beginning of when the relationship may be coming to an end. This song shows that not all relationships are perfect like they seem on social media.

“Lying to Myself” and “How to Love Other People” are about trying to move on from someone, but still thinking about them. It’s the denial stage and trying to figure out how to love someone else after that relationship ended.

Like all songs, this EP should leave listeners being able to relate to some aspect of it, whether it’s not being able to get over someone or being happy in a relationship.

Listeners can hope that Hugo comes out with more music later this year, but can also enjoy other songs from him, such as “Eye2eye,” “Falling Hearts,” and “we made it,” which are all from his first album, “Blossom Hill.”
