Boys Basketball Coach: Jason Geyer
Coach Jason Geyer has been the head boys varsity basketball coach since Rock Ridge opened in 2014. He played basketball in high school and college, and after graduating, Geyer knew that he wanted to coach and share his love for basketball. When Geyer is not coaching basketball, he is a physical education teacher.
“I always played basketball growing up with my brother and friends in the neighborhood,” Geyer said. “It’s always been the sport I’ve been attracted to the most.” Geyer’s love for basketball transitioned into his love for coaching, and he expressed optimism for his team this season. “We got a new set of guys this year that are really excited to have the opportunity to play varsity this year,” Geyer said. “Having a group to start fresh this year was fun from the very beginning.”
Geyer’s passion for the sport and his team is obvious. “There’s relationships with the team, there’s the competitive aspect, and the game of basketball itself,” Geyer said. “There are so many pieces and layers to basketball, but I enjoy it all. That’s why I’ve done it for so long.”
Multiple players that Geyer has coached have gone on to play at the collegiate level, such as Phoenix alumni Nick Ondrus at Eastern Mennonite University, Gregory Spurlock Jr. at Coppin State University, and Alex Fitch at the University of Lynchburg.
