The Phoenix girls tennis team faced off against the Rams on March 15 at 5 p.m. The match started with six singles matches that took place simultaneously. The singles matches ended with a final score of 4-2, with Riverside leading. The Phoenix have high hopes for their next singles matches. “I think I could improve and do better for the next time,” senior Anvita Sana said, reflecting on her match against Rams player Maddie Tran.

Senior Anya Ambarish, who has been on the court since childhood,  also played in a singles match. “There’s no better feeling than the feeling of making good contact with the ball,” Ambarish said.

Following the singles matches, the three doubles matches began. “Me and my partner were actually losing towards the beginning,” senior Sanjna Reddy said. “We were down [3-0], but we just brought up the aggressiveness, and we got our net game better, and just started hitting more consistently and then we won 8-4.” The Phoenix won the doubles matches 2-1, but the final score was a 5-4 loss to the Rams. “Everyone did try their best,” Reddy said. “We just have to keep going.”

The girls tennis team will have their next match against the Stone Bridge Bulldogs on March 17 at 5 p.m.
