Sitting in the corner of the parking lot, a colorful food truck, releases a captivating scent. That would be Our Waffle Creations, its sweet smell of maple syrup and sugar attracting customers from every direction to taste the delicious desserts.
Our Waffle Creations is a family-owned company that specializes in creative waffle desserts. They are based in Ashburn, Va., and show up every weekend at Ashbrook and Brambleton farmers’ markets from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to sell their freshly baked goods.
At Our Waffle Creations, they take pride in their waffle-on-a-stick dessert, with a variety of toppings to choose from. They also serve waffle dogs along with their main waffle on a stick. They are set to expand their menu soon by serving smash burgers and hot dogs.
Mohaimen Kazi, one of the owners of Our Waffle Creations, was among two of the owners that helped open up their business in July of 2023, but before that, they were brainstorming everything about waffles. “It began as shopping for a waffle maker for the house and led me to researching lots of different types of waffles I can make at home,” Kazi said. “After hours of watching YouTube, I stumbled on waffle sticks.” After lots of research, trial and error, and analysis, they eventually decided to open up their own waffle-on-a-stick business.
Along with running a small business comes challenges, and Our Waffle Creations ran into several obstacles along the way. “It took us multiple tries and different recipes to come up with our batter,” Kazi said. They wanted to sell the best quality and tastiest waffles on a stick, so they worked long and hard to perfect their recipe.
After they created their menu and gathered all of the supplies needed to run their business, they decided to launch their business to the public. They first started to show up at the Brambleton farmers market in late September of 2024, and ever since then, they experienced a strong customer base and an increase in sales ever since they launched. Because of their success at the Brambleton farmers market, they decided to expand their business further to the Ashbrook farmers market, as well, to spread their name more across the community.
With their love of desserts, they were able to come up with a unique dessert business that is rare in Ashburn. They wanted to create something that is different from what other businesses sell. “With our love of waffles, we knew that people would love something portable and easy to eat at the farmer’s markets and different festivals,” said Kazi. “So, essentially, it was a combination of our sweet tooth and the portability of our food.”
Today, they continue to expand their menu and show up at more farmers’ markets to sell their fresh waffles on a stick. They love meeting new people along the way and having such a supportive customer base. They also enjoy sharing their visions through food.
Our Waffle Creations will continue to expand their business around Loudon County and the D.C. metropolitan area, further setting their business up for success in the future, with goals to have a brick and mortar.
