Welcome back to another episode of Classroom Conversation. In this episode, I’m co-hosting with staffer Mariia Percherkina, and we are discussing the federal law known as Title IX. In this podcast, we are interviewing the Editor in Chief of The Blaze senior Ananya Karthik who did a partner piece, focusing on the administration point of view. Joining us as well are English teacher and Gender and Women’s Studies Jessica Berg, junior Mintaaha Kader, and sophomore Gianna Ficcara.

Aline Gonzalez, Multimedia Editor

Aline Gonzalez is a senior and the Multimedia Editor for The Blaze. This is her fourth year on staff, and her passion for journalism started in third grade after joining her elementary paper. On the staff, she enjoys writing impactful opinion pieces to give a wider perspective on various topics. One of her proudest accomplishments was writing a piece on pronouns and the way schools use them now. Her goal in newspaper this year is to fulfill her editor position by having a video or podcast up every month. In the future, Aline wants to pursue law and criminology, as well as eventually go into journalism. She plans on joining the Mock Trial club at Rock Ridge this year to fuel her passion for law as well as the Hispanic Latinx club to connect with her heritage. Her other hobbies include reading, pet-sitting animals, and staying active by going to the gym.

Mariia Pecherkina, Multimedia Editor

Mariia Pecherkina is a junior this year and is the multimedia editor at The Blaze. Her second year on staff, Mariia enjoys editing videos, gathering interviews, and the entire multimedia aspect of journalism. Being able to represent overlooked perspectives and bringing them to the forefront of discussion is Mariia’s favorite part of journalism. She believes that multimedia is a good medium to conduct this through, due to how it sparks emotional investment within viewers. Outside of The Blaze, Mariia holds a leadership position in the International Club, which she enjoys due to how it unifies the different parts of the school’s community, and is interested in Russian politics. Mariia also enjoys Russian music, playing the piano, and spending time with her two cats and is also a Metro fiend. Her goal in The Blaze this year is to teach people the importance of multimedia journalism and to spread more awareness about The Blaze in the school community.
