Phoenix Girls Tennis Sweep Patriots Off the Court

Celebrating their senior night, the Phoenix girls tennis team took on the Park View Patriots, concluding the match with a victory of 9-0.

On May 1, the Phoenix girls tennis team competed against the Park View Patriots, concluding with a 9-0 win. Starting strong in the singles, the top six players all won their matches, despite dealing with unexpected weather. “I think [one of the challenges] was adapting to the weather [because] it was super windy, but we still had fun even though we were freezing,” junior Sannidhi Sangisetti said. Doubles followed suit with the team winning all of their matches.

The team also celebrated their senior night for senior Keerthi Uppalapati. “We are all really really good friends and we are kind of like sisters, I guess, in the most non-cheesy way ever,” Sangisetti said.

Uppalapati has been a part of the tennis program for the past four years and is ranked fourth on the team. “I’ve known her (Keerthi) since my freshman year and we are really good friends, and she was my doubles partner for two years as well,” junior Tarini Panidepu said. “She is a very outgoing person and she always makes the team smile. We are really happy to have her around all the time and we are going to miss her a lot when she leaves.”

The Phoenix girls tennis team is known throughout the district as a powerful group. As of last year, the team competed at states and maintained their title by dominating the competition in the area. Although there are graduating seniors that have made a lasting impact on the team’s success, there are many more incoming athletes with the potential to not only preserve the team’s countless victories, but to also take the program several steps further.
