On March 12, the 95th Oscars took over the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, CA for the often-dubbed “biggest night in Hollywood.”  The Oscars were hosted by the late-night host Jimmy Kimmel and the Academy, who presented awards to various drama, comedy, and action films. A multitude of actors won awards such as best supporting actor/actresses, lead actor/actresses, best picture, and many more.

The show began with the beige or “champagne” carpet, which presented many different types of stylish outfits with several celebrities and designers. Eventually, Jimmy Kimmel started the show with a fantastic and comedic monologue discussing the new films. “I know that being here tonight is a dream come true for most of the people in this room, thank you for inviting me to be a part of it,” Kimmel said. “Especially this year, when the world finally got out of the house to see the films you work so hard [on], the way you intended them to be seen.”

The Oscars kicked off with two awards presented to actress Jamie Lee Curtis, who won best supporting actress for “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” and actor Ke Huy Quan, who won best supporting actor for the same film. They both had amazing, heartwarming speeches dedicated to their families at home. Quan had an amazing speech specifically dedicated to his mom. “Mom, I just won an Oscar,” Quan said.

In addition, Michelle Yeoh won best actress alongside Daniel Kwan and Daniel Schiebert who won best directors and original screenplay for “Everything Everywhere All At Once.” Stephanie Hsu was also nominated for best supporting actress and Paul Rogers won best film editing, bringing the film’s Oscars to a total of seven. The entire cast was filled with joy due to the vast awards that were won for their film. “Thank you so much to everyone here, you’ve all inspired me,” Kwan said, “I think one of the things I realized growing up was one of the best things we can do for each other is shelter each other from the chaos of this crazy world.”

“All Quiet On The Western Front” won five Oscars for best international feature film alongside best score, production design, cinematography, and original score. Director Edward Berger delivered a sensational, emotional speech which included his gratitude towards his loved ones and his film crew. “I owe everything to you, I owe everything to you and the rest of my crew,” Berger said.

“The Whale” was also one the major films that won several awards during the ceremony, such as best actor, which was presented to Brendan Fraser, and best makeup artists, which was mainly significant to the entire film crew. Brendan Fraser made a comeback by providing a teary speech dedicated to all of his film crew and loved ones. Meanwhile, best sound was given to “Top Gun: Maverick,” which had fun and intense dramatics throughout the film with exquisite sound. In addition, “RRR” was one of the night’s biggest wins due to the film winning best original song for its song “Naatu Naatu” and it being an international film in Telugu, which significantly impacted the Bollywood industry.

Best live action film was presented to Tom Berkeley and Ross White who helped with the production of “An Irish Goodbye,” which follows the story of a farmer and his daily life throughout Ireland. Similarly, best animated film was given to Charlie Makasey and Peter Baynton, who won for the short film “The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse,” which follows the heartwarming story of a journey between many different animals throughout many different seasons.

Costume and visual effects have been most commonly known for being one of the most significant factors throughout the Oscars. “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” took home the legendary award for costume design which greatly impacted the film’s reputation. In addition, “Avatar: The Way of Water” has been significant in winning the award for best visual effects due to the actors’ underwater scenes. In addition, Guillermo del Toro’s version of “Pinocchio” had best animation alongside the “Elephant Whisperer,” who won best short documentary. These two films were both very well received and had great visuals throughout the entire film. Also, “Navalny” won best documentary with real footage and great visuals throughout the world.
